Watch Ohio Resident Comedian Dave Chappelle perform Radiohead’s “Creep” with Foo Fighters in New York City
Sometimes we don’t even know what we desperately need until we get it. It was the case this weekend, when Ohio’s funniest resident joined one of the world’s biggest bands on stage.
On Sunday night, rock band Foo Fighters performed New York City’s first full capacity concert since March 2020. It was already a monumental occasion, with all Madison Square Garden attendees fully vaccinated and ready to finally release. pandemic frustrations through song.
But then there was more. There is always more with Foo Fighters.
“I thought we should do something special so it’s an unforgettable night,” Foo Fighters singer and guitarist Dave Grohl told the audience towards the end of the night. “I know a few Dave’s, right? But I have to be honest, my fucking favorite Dave is here tonight singing a song with us – something we’ve never done, and he’s never played with us, so we understand why not try this shit in front of you? “
That’s when comedian Dave Chappelle – Grohl’s “favorite fucking Dave” – came out and audiences lost their minds. The Yellow Springs, Ohio resident took the stage calmly to enthusiastic applause and launched straight into Radiohead‘s “Creep” in 1992. Although he didn’t try the high notes of the bridge, Chappelle performed admirably and seemed to enjoy the opportunity.
It wasn’t the only cover of the evening, however. Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins sang the lead role in Queen’s “Somebody to Love” while Grohl returned behind the kit. The rest of the night was filled with megahits of the Foos’ expansive discography. See the full list of Foo Fighters.
Chappelle gave several shows at the Wirrig Pavilion in Yellow Springs in late May and early June of this year.
Foo Fighters will be the first group to perform on the outdoor festival stage at the ICON Music Center in Cincinnati on July 28.
Is there any chance the two of them will end up in Cincinnati? Let’s all keep our fingers crossed.
