The Royal Mint puts the Who at the center of the scene on a new range of collector coins
The Who Collector’s Coin is the fourth in the Royal Mint’s ‘Music Legends’ series and follows coins honoring the Queen, Elton john and David Bowie. The dynamic coin design includes some of the band’s most iconic symbols of loud, live performances – including a union flag, the Mod logo, and a jaw-dropping Rickenbacker guitar. Together, the symbols on the coin form a pinball table, a nod to the unique Pinball magician and album Tommy, one of the best-known creations of the group. Using the latest color printing technology, the elements of the coin have been digitally printed to showcase the vibrant red, white and blue of the band’s emblem.
Using the latest technology and innovative manufacturing techniques, a number of pieces will feature a special ‘shock wave’ effect, radiating from the speaker – enhancing the detail of the piece. The designers and artisans of the Mint developed this effect in honor of The Who’s record-breaking loud concert – a record that was held for a decade.
