Shots fired, six casings discovered in Montclair, police say
Several shots were fired in Montclair on Saturday, but no gunshot wounds were reported on Tuesday, police said.
At 3:23 p.m. Saturday, Montclair Police responded in the Washington Street and New Street area to a report of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers located six used shell casings at the intersection.
Preliminary investigation indicated that a black vehicle, possibly a Honda Civic, occupied by two men was shooting at a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a Chevy Malibu, also occupied by two men, police said. The Civic was last seen fleeing west on Fulton Street towards Elm Street. The Malibu was last seen en route south on Maple Avenue, police said.
All hospitals in the area have been screened for gunshot wound victims with negative results. Police said Tuesday they did not know if anyone in Malibu had been hit by gunfire. The incident is still under investigation.
Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Daniel Heiser at 973-509-4724.
