The Smile – Radiohead’s side project starring Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood alongside drummer Tom Skinner – debuted on Saturday during the live broadcast of Glastonbury’s Live at Worthy Farm, the trio performing an ensemble containing a handful of new songs and revisiting an unheard of Radiohead rarity. .
The band opened their very first concert – performed in a giant tent at the Glastonbury site – with ‘Skating on the Surface’, an updated version of Radiohead’s ‘Skirting on the Surface’, a relic played three times over. The king of limbs tour that had not been carried out since 2012.

In her only remark during the performance, Yorke introduced the group: âLadies and gentlemen, our name is ‘The Smile’. Not the smile like in ‘ahh’, more ‘the smile’ like in, the guy who lies to you every day⦠âThe trio takes its name from a poem by Ted Hughes of the same name.
Since The Smile was revealed on Saturday, the group has launched social media accounts and an official website, but no exit plan has been announced. The entire Smile concert can be replayed on Sunday during callbacks for the Live at Worthy Farm event, which also featured Coldplay, Haim, Damon Albarn, Jorja Smith and more.
