We can always use more of Dave Chappelle, can’t we?

Chappelle – who owns a home in Yellow Springs, Ohio, just over an hour northeast of Cincinnati – will soon be adding another Netflix special to his long line of credits. The comedian and actor will make his debut The closest on the streaming channel Tuesday, October 5.

In a tweet, Netflix describes Chappelle’s special as “the sixth chapter.” The last installment follows The age of the rotation, In the heart of Texas, Equanimity, The revelation of the bird and Sticks & Stones.

Chappelle spends an entire summer after bouncing back from contracting COVID-19. In June, the comedian was a surprise guest at the Foo Fighers concert in New York and performed Radiohead‘s “Creep”. Dave Grohl of the Foos called Chappelle “my fucking favorite Dave”.

Last week, the Miami Township Board of Zoning Appeals accepted Chappelle’s request for zoning approval to host shows at the Wirrig Pavilion just outside Yellow Springs from September 30 to October 30. 31. The Wirrig Pavilion is zoned for agricultural and non-commercial use, so special approval was required.

In 2020, Chappelle hosted a series of stand-up shows and social distancing music shows at the pavilion. The celebrity-filled performances were a huge success throughout the summer until early fall, before Chappelle canceled the remaining shows due to COVID-19. According to zoning inspector Richard Zopf, Chappelle was given a temporary exception to organize public events, overriding restrictions were in place during the pandemic.

In a 2020 appearance on Saturday Night Live, Chappelle lamented the complaints of his neighbors during his shows at Wirrig. Zopf says some area residents feel they have been negatively affected by the shows.

This is not the first time that the comedian has made noise in this idyllic little town. According to a Facebook post from the village of Yellow Springs, the future Chappelle Firehouse Eatery restaurant and adjoining comedy club, Live from YS were recently approved by the village planning commission. Yellow Springs Development Corporation agreed to sell the building to Chapelle’s Iron Table Holdings LLC last December.
