Management companies add properties to their portfolios. Here is an overview:

Life House expands in East Hampton
New York-based boutique hotel operator Life House Hotels has added the Maidstone Hotel and Maidstone Restaurant in East Hampton, NY to its growing portfolio.

Since acquiring the hotel in 2008, hotelier Jenny Baker and her husband Jonathan Baker, writer, film producer, director and adventurer, have run the small luxury hotel and its restaurant. The two will remain involved in the creative direction of the property going forward, while allowing Life House to oversee the day-to-day operations of the hotels and restaurants.

Over 150 years old, the Greek Revival has served many owners, each in a unique and contemporary way. Built just before the Civil War by the Osborne family, the current structure has foundations dating back to the 17th century. For much of the 19th century, the building was used as a tannery and initially accommodated overnight guests while their stools were being repaired.

In the mid-1920s the house began to serve as a full-time inn and became known as the Maidstone Arms. Newspaper columns in the decades that followed advertised the seasonal residence of a rotating roster of socialites, and the Inn became a trendy destination as East Hampton grew into a world-famous summer colony.

As Creative Director, co-owner Jenny Baker oversaw her repositioning towards a concept of ‘cozy Scandinavian’ hospitality, a term she coined to describe the hotels welcoming blend of American ease and sophisticated Scandinavian sensibility. that embodies quirk, personality and professionalism. The hotel offers a mix of eco-friendly spaces, modern design combined with old world charm, curated artwork, and local food and drink offerings. The result is a unique escape to the Hamptons where dogs and kids are as welcome as lovers and exes.

The property will continue to offer Jonathan Baker aromatherapy products in the room and for sale on site. The co-owner’s lifestyle brand has an existing customer base that reads like a Hollywood ‘Who’s Who’ – from Christina Aguilera to Will Smith.

Life House will operate the hotel until summer 2021, after which the group’s award-winning in-house design team will collaborate with the property on a new restaurant and bar concept.
