It was the final expiration of this amazing project and one that I let out with complete fulfillment. To be able to do it. with Carole and Jamie was an incredible privilege… Our goal was to show that music has always been Ms. Franklin’s anchor, in everything she does, and I hope this song exemplifies the strength of her. voice – both literally and figuratively – which always brought her home.
King added, “Writing a song with Jamie Hartman and Jennifer Hudson was both familiar and fresh. The songwriting process continues to amaze me. One minute there is nothing, and then a song is born from the seed of an idea. The seed was dormant when Jennifer, Jamie and I virtually met for the first time. Jennifer and I had performed together before, and I was excited to write with her for no less than a film called The respect in which Jennifer plays Aretha Franklin!
The respect is scheduled to arrive in theaters on August 13, and the soundtrack will be released on the same day. Besides Hudson, the cast includes Forest Whitaker, Marlon Wayans, Audra McDonald, Marc Maron, Tituss Burgess and Mary J. Blige.
