HIKARU UTADA announces new album and launches new music video

World J-pop Superstar HIKARU UTADA announces today the upcoming release of a new album BAD FASHION, available Wednesday, January 19, 2022. BAD FASHION marks Hikaru Utada’s eighth studio album and follows a string of recent hits including “One Last Kiss”, the theme song of EVANGELION: 3.0 + 1.0 ONCE UPON A TIME, and “PINK BLOOD” the theme of the TV anime To your eternity. The album premiered last month with the debut single “Kimini Muchuu“, which was recorded with frequent collaborators and producers AG Cook. The official music video for “Kimini Muchuu” is presented today in commemoration of the 23e anniversary of Hikaru Utada’s debut in 1998.

The music video for “Kimini Muchuu” gives viewers a glimpse of HIKARU UTADA LIVE SESSIONS FROM AIR STUDIOS, an upcoming special concert by Hikaru Utada to be released to celebrate the release of BAD FASHION. Today’s video features footage from the show, which will air on the album’s release day and Hikaru Utada’s birthday. wednesday january 19 at 8 p.m. JST / 6 a.m. EST / 3 a.m. PST and be available to look through Sunday 23 January 2022. Recorded at the legendary Air Studios in London, the concert is a first for Utada, which brought together a group of renowned musicians led by the bassist Jodi Milliner, conductor of the 2018 tour of Utada, to perform the music for the new album. The concert was recorded and mixed by the sound engineer Steve fitzmaurice, who also worked on the new album, and directed by David Barnard, whose filmography includes “In Rainbows – From Basement” by Radiohead and “LOCKDOWN SESSIONS” by Eric Clapton. With “Kimini Muchuu, “One last kiss” and “PINK SOME BLOOD, ” BAD FASHION will include the worldwide hit song “Face my fears, Which was written and produced by Hikaru Utada alongside chart-topping producers Skrillex and Poop bear and features like the action role-playing game’s opening song HEARTS OF THE KINGDOM ??, as good as “Time“, which is the main theme of the Japanese television series Bishoku Tantei Akechi Goro. BAD FASHION will also feature unreleased songs and special bonus remixes. Among the unreleased tracks is Hikaru Utada’s first English track since 2019 titled “Find love“, which is the theme song of SHISEIDOthe latest global beauty campaign from “THE POWER IS YOU. “Hikaru Utada is included as campaign ambassador alongside American football star Megan Rapinoe and spanish actress rsula Corberó, each representing the power of inner beauty to transform society for the better. Hikaru Utada is also a brand ambassador for Japanese mineral water SUNTORY Tennensui, appearing in an advertisement for the brand that features a song titled “Darenimo Iwanai. ”
