Electric violinist Marissa Licata makes her Birdland debut on Monday
Based in New York and Boston, Honduran-American violinist Marissa Licata is a noted presence on the orchestral and chamber music stages, with over fifteen years of classical violin training and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the New England Conservatory of Music. But with her electrifying passion and vibrant versatility, she has also spread to rock music – performing on national and international tours with stars such as Alicia Keys, Jethro Tull, Wyclef Jean, HER, Ben Harper, Ringo Starr. , Gloria Estefan and many others – and, more recently, in musical theater. In 2018, Marissa joined the American Repertory Theater as a violinist and violinist for the musical Alanis Morrisette. On Monday, September 13 at 8:30 p.m., Birdland Theater will present Licata in their first solo concert in New York, Ropes on fire. They will be joined on stage by a special guest James montgomery on harmonica and vocals. A blues legend for nearly six decades, Montgomery has toured with many of the biggest names in the business, including Aerosmith, Bruce Springsteen, The Allman Brothers, Steve Miller, Bonnie Raitt, BB King and many more. He was a member of the Blues Brothers with Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi, the Commander Cody Band, and also performed for six years with the iconic Johnny Winter Band.
“I haven’t shared music in the same room with people for a year and a half,” Licata said. “The point of striving to be a great player is to share your experiences with as many people as possible. We were forced to a screeching halt, and now we can play and share again. For coming through this healthy period, making progress and improvements, I am incredibly lucky to have the opportunity to show it all in a first solo show at the famous Birdland in New York!
