Early reviews of “The Matrix Resurrections” call it a worthy sequel

There is no spoon. But for the first time in twenty years, he is a new Matrix movie.

It is called Matrix resurrections and it will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max next week. It stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss of The matrix trilogy, joined by franchise newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Neil Patrick Harris and Jonathan Groff, as well as a few returning co-stars from the original films like Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe. And it was all directed and co-written by Lana Wachowski.

So how is it? The first social media reviews for the film have appeared online tonight and they are largely very positive. Some recognize that the movie can get a bit dense and chatty at times, and a few have compared it (both positively and negatively) to the previous two sequels, The Matrix Reloaded and Matrix revolutions. Most of the time, however, critics praised his ambitions, idiosyncrasies, and love affair about Neo and Trinity.

Here is a sample of all the early reviews:

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

From visionary filmmaker Lana Wachowski comes “The Matrix Resurrections”, the long-awaited fourth film in the groundbreaking franchise that redefined a genre. The new film reunites the original stars Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss in the iconic roles they made famous, Neo and Trinity.

Matrix resurrections premieres in theaters and on HBO Max on December 22. We’ll have a lot more about the movie here on ScreenCrush next week.
