David Bowie’s Lost Album Toy, recorded in 2000, is slated for release after more than two decades of archiving as part of a new collection of boxes titled Brilliant Adventure (1992 – 2001).

The album is reminiscent of Bowie’s early years, reimagining and re-recording songs he wrote before his 1969 hit, Space Oddity. These songs were removed from his live repertoire shortly after he grew up. Toy was recorded in the year 2000, but it was shelved when Bowie left Virgin Records in 2001.

The album will now be released as part of David Bowie 5. Brilliant Adventure (1992 – 2001), alongside two discs of the Toy the outputs of the sessions. The box set also brings together remastered editions of Black tie White noise, Suburban Buddha, Outdoors, Earthman, hours… Re: Call 5 and live recording BBC Radio Theater, London, June 27, 2000.

The set will be released on November 26 as a vinyl pack of seven CDs or 18 LPs. Following this, the Toy album will be released in the new TOY BOX format January 7, 2022. This includes the original tracks, some samples and some alternate mixes. View full tracklists and purchase options here.

Prior to its release, the Bowie Estate released an official version of the track Toy You’ve Got A Habit Of Leaving. Bowie guitarist at the time Earl Slick said of the recording sessions at Rolling stone: “We had done a lot of concerts until then. “We didn’t have to think much about how to approach the songs. We had an operating system; unspoken. We hardly ever talked about anything. We just looked at each other, or David looked at us, and it just would happen. “
