David Bowie biopic gets a release date

Lunar Reverie opens this fall
Lunar Reverie, a new definitive portrait of David Bowie by Brett Morgen, is set to hit theaters and IMAX worldwide on September 16. It is the first film to be officially sanctioned by Bowie’s estate and recently had its critically acclaimed world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
Bowie’s official social accounts first broke the news with David Bowie’s official tweet, ‘MOONAGE DAYDREAM FILM…IT’S A DATE – ‘It was a day in that blue month of September…’ – MOONAGE DAYDREAM – the first film to be officially sanctioned by David Bowie’s estate – lands in cinemas and IMAX worldwide on September 16.
BMG and co-production partner Live Nation Productions, the film’s executive and financial producers, have licensed US distribution rights to Neon while Universal Entertainment International will handle the film outside of the United States. North American cable and broadcast rights were licensed to HBO and HBO Max.
The film, including its title track, draws heavily from Bowie’s catalog of songs from 1970 to 1977 in which BMG has a 25% stake, including “Changes”, “Starman”, “Ziggy Stardust”, “The Jean Genie”, “All The Young Dudes”. ,” and others. BMG’s relationship with Bowie’s catalog is unaffected by Warner Music’s recent acquisition of Bowie’s catalog of songs.
Acclaimed filmmaker Brett Morgen (The Child Stays in the Picture, Cobain: Montage of Heck, Jane) synthesized the music and art of David Bowie into a sublime kaleidoscopic experiential cinematic odyssey that explores Bowie’s creative, spiritual and philosophical journey. Featuring never-before-seen imagery, performances and music, the film is guided exclusively by Bowie’s narration with longtime collaborator and friend Tony Visconti serving as the film’s music producer.
Lunar Reverie is written, directed, edited and produced by Brett Morgen. Executive producers are Hartwig Masuch, Kathy Rivkin Daum and Justus Haerder for BMG; Michael Rapino, Heather Parry and Ryan Kroft for Live Nation Productions; Bill Zysblat, Tom Cyrana, Aisha Cohen and Eileen D’Arcy for RZO; Billy Gerber and Debra Eisenstadt. The feature film is a Public Road Productions film.
