McGrath says, “I love the way the song clearly says, ‘Why it ALWAYS has to be about a boy’ and a lot of what I stand for is empowering women! I feel like this song in a way represents that emotion to me, and it really reminds us and the listeners that women are equally valid and can play on the same pitch! Ask any girl – they had a time in their life where their world revolved around a boy, there is humor in that for me, as much as we are independent and confident, we are all still human and honoring human emotions becoming real with a feeling is something very important to me.
Tell us about your new music and the inspiration behind it.
Really, the biggest inspiration is to empower women and make them feel like it doesn’t always have to be about a boy, and it can be about them.
What was the writing and recording process like?
The song was written by Emma-Lee, Karen Kosowski, and Robyn Dell’Unto, and it’s the first song I’ve ever recorded and released that I didn’t write! They are incredible songwriters, and I am very honored to have been able to record one of their baby singers.
When I heard this song, I loved how relevant it was; each girl can find a piece of this story to relate to. The check-in process was definitely different from normal; we all wore masks, and there were no celebratory high fives or hugs… but we still got the job done in a safe and isolated manner!
What do you hope your fans / listeners take away when they listen to your music?
I want listeners to feel inspired and connected to a feeling, whether it’s joy, reflection, sadness, or excitement. When we connect with human emotion through music it makes us feel understood and less alone knowing that someone else is feeling the same somewhere out there!
When did you first choose the guitar and what attracted you to this instrument?
As a kid we would go camping all the time and my dad’s friends would spend the night playing and singing! I thought it was so cool to see how the music entertained and inspired everyone who was there, and I couldn’t wait to be able to do it for crowds of people!
What are your musical influences?
I am a huge fan of Carrie Underwood, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Shania Twain, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera and Kelly Clarkson.
I’m excited to share a new collection of songs with the world in 2021! Get excited for more music from me soon.
