Cheddar Gorgeous lip-syncs on “Starman” by David Bowie
Cheddar Gorgeous is clearly sensing David Bowie’s fantasy as she delivers an out of the ordinary lip-syncing performance of ‘Starman’ for Attitude’s Superdrag Lip-sync, supported by Slingsby.
the Slide SOS arrives in her cosmic setting dressed in a metallic spacesuit before removing her helmet to reveal a Bowie-esque orange wig and contrasting blue makeup.
In a final twist, Cheddar gives us her best Sasha Velor as she takes off her wig to release a flood of silver confetti.
Cheddar explained to Attitude what pride means to her. “Pride is an opportunity to disrupt the grind of life and challenge the norm with a productive explosion of queerness. A reminder that we are stronger together.
“It is important to maintain the progress that has been made and to continue to push for the rights and protections of members of our community who continue to face prejudice.
Unfortunately, the most memorable thing that happened to the Cheddar at Pride was not a positive one.
“While walking along the river with a partner, I was taunted and harassed by two masked men. As they caught up with us, they took out a knife and threatened to “beat us” if we didn’t give them something. Fortunately, I was able to speak out against them and no one was hurt, but it got me thinking a lot about the subtle ways in which hatred and intolerance manifest itself.
“While I don’t think homophobia or transphobia was the primary motivation for the attack (they were looking to assault someone, they came prepared), throwing out phrases like ‘what the hell this is ? ”(I was wearing a dress) and“ batty boy ”showed how that figured in their choice of target and the way we were seen as different from them made it easier to threaten us.
“Even with their masks on, I could tell they were just teenagers. It made me realize the importance of education and bonding with communities where homophobia and transphobia still thrive, in the hope of making it clear that we are just people like everyone else. world.
Sadly, as Attitude recently reported, homophobic attacks still occur regularly across the UK, with three Liverpool students being attacked within a week of each other.
As Cheddar says, we all need to continue to connect and educate people about the realities of being LGBTQ in 2021 and remember that pride is as much about making a statement and standing up for our human rights, as it is about to celebrate the community.
