Bruce Springsteen and our 2021 review in the new Uncut
Welcome to Uncut’s Annual Year in Review. In a special 31-page section of the magazine, we’ll browse our top 75 new albums, top 30 archival releases, top 30 movies, and top 20 books. I am pleased to announce that the 49 contributors who took part in this year’s poll voted for a total of 431 new albums and
198 archive releases. These appear to be remarkably healthy statistics – indicating that despite the challenges of the past 12 months, a lot of good music has made its way into nature. In connection with the survey, you will find new interviews with The weather station, Cassandra Jenkins, John murry, Mogwai, Can’s Irmin Schmidt, Ryley walker, Beach boys, Dry cleaning and The coral – who all had a productive 2021 year.
Without too many spoils, I am particularly happy to welcome Tamara lindeman back to the pages of Uncut. After offering our subscribers a unique Weather Station CD at the start of the year around the release of Ignorance, it is a great satisfaction to revisit Tamara and her magnificent album at the end of the year.
What else? We hear from Robert Plant and Alison Krauss as they prepare for Raise The Roof, witness the launch of new music by Feist, catch up Jonny greenwoodthe latest projects and discover the secrets of Jason isbellthe new studio album by. There is also the little case of our cover star: Bruce springsteen, which returns this month with two very different releases. Eagle-eyed readers will already have noticed that this issue comes in a bag containing three freebies: a map of America from Springsteen, a Springsteen Collector’s Cover and a 15 tracks CD Best Of 2021. Huge props to Peter Watts and our art editor Marc Jones for the brilliant job they did on the map and to Tom Pinnock – whom I am afraid I cannot thank enough for for his consistently excellent work every month on our free CDs .
In the meantime, take advantage of the number. And let us know what you think of our year-end surveys. What were your favorite albums from 2021, then? What have we missed from our lists? Please message us at [email protected] and let us know what you think.
