Bruce Springsteen and Barack Obama have confirmed the publication of a book they wrote together inspired by their renegades podcast series.

Also titled Renegades: Born in the United States, the “Frank, Intimate and Entertaining Conversation Collection” arrives October 26th. A short promotional clip shows the couple testing a sports car together.

“Over the years, what we’ve discovered is that we have a common sensibility. About work, family and America, “the former president wrote in his introduction.” In our own way Bruce and I have taken side trips to try to understand this country that has given us so much to both. Trying to tell the stories of Seeking a way to connect our own individual searches for meaning, truth and community to the larger history of America. “

You can watch a trailer for the book below.

“There have been serious conversations about the fate of the country, the fortunes of its citizens and the destructive, ugly and corrupt forces at play that would like to bring it all down,” Springsteen added. “It’s a time of vigilance when we are seriously tested. Difficult conversations about who we are and who we want to become can perhaps serve as a little orientation map for some of our fellow citizens.

In an episode of the podcast, the couple discussed how Springsteen’s classic song “Born in the USA” was misused by people who didn’t understand its meaning. “I think the song was appropriate: one is because it was so powerful; two, it’s because his imagery was so fundamentally American, ”the singer said.

“But it has required you to have two conflicting ideas in your mind at the same time: that you can both be very critical of your nation and very proud of your nation at the same time. And that’s something you see. debate this very day. “
