BBC A very British scandal: Paul Bettany’s marriage to the famous female model and actress he “had a crush” on 20 years before they met

Most people have a celebrity crush in their childhood and that will be all it takes to be a crush.
But for actor Paul Bettany, his dream came true when he married his co-star and favorite celebrity, Jennifer Connelly.
The couple starred together in A Beautiful Mind in 2001, but Paul developed a crush after seeing her in the 1986 movie Labyrinth alongside David Bowie.

After filming was finished they went their separate ways, Paul in Tuscany and Jennifer in New York.
But the events of 911 encouraged him to act on his feelings.
Speaking on The Larry King, Paul said: âWhat happened was September 11th, I was in Tuscany shopping and saw this crowd at the outside of this cafe and thought it must be that soccer game.
âI pushed myself forward just in time for the second plane to hit the second tower and like so many people’s lives then, mine changed forever.
“And I ran back to that house and spent two days trying to call this woman that I barely knew and I remember very clearly thinking to myself ‘what are you doing? ‘ and I realized that I was in love.
“I finally got her on the phone and said, ‘I’m coming over and getting married’ and that’s really what happened, we had never dated.”

Larry King asked her what her reaction was to her grand gesture to which she simply replied “ok”.
He continued, “She already had a son, so I knew I was taking a plane and leaving my country and now we’ve been married for 10 years.”
The couple married in Scotland in 2003, just four months after they got together.
He joked, âWe got married really quickly because I thought she had a three to six month window before she could see through the accent.
