“A Roadrunner whispered in my ear to make mushroom fangs”
Not everyone is a fan of the Crocs, and people like Victoria Beckham have made known their distaste for quirky shoes. Either way, the Crocs have made an even bigger comeback thanks to various celebrities such as Justin Beiber and Post Malone. Diplo recently launched their collection of foam plastic shoes, and they sold out within hours. The star has revealed her inspiration for the collection, and the source will blow your mind.
The beginnings of Diplo
Born Thomas Wesley Pentz, Diplo spent most of his youth in Miami, where he began experimenting with Miami bass. Local rap had a significant influence on the DJ’s production style. He attended the University of Central Florida and became a DJ at Rollins College radio station.
When he moved to continue his education at Temple University, Diplo began to gain attention as a DJ. He and his colleague DJ Low Budget started hosting parties under the name Hooked on Hollertronix. The two had met a few times as DJs and had formed a strong bond.
The success of their partnership has led them to release mixtapes both as a team and independently and to gain recognition across the country. One of their mixtapes was ranked in the New York Times Top Ten in 2003, and the duo’s nickname has partnered up with parties with guests like MIA and Maluca Mala.
Diplo was originally called Diplodocus. It’s the same name the star used to release her first solo project. It didn’t take long for his evenings to give him the success he needed to take his career to the next level and build a studio with a full-time focus on music.
Focusing on music and a studio in mind, the star built her iconic studio, “The Mausoleum”. âThe Mausoleumâ would be a video studio, a label office, an event space and a video studio. âThe Mausoleumâ has become home to various high profile artists such as Shakira, Christina Aguilera, plastic little, and more.
Who dated Diplo
Although Diplo was never married, he has had a long list of high-profile relationships. In 2003, the star started seeing rapper MIA, and during their relationship the two collaborated on several songs such as “Paper Planes”. Their love may have blossomed into the music but faded over time, with reports pointing to emotional abuse from the DJ.
The couple ended their five-year relationship in 2008, and in 2015 MIA accused Diplo of being jealous of his success and of trying to control his career. In 2014, rumors began to circulate that Diplo and singer Katy Perry were an item.
The couple were spotted together at Coachella and also the Amazing Spider-Man 2 premiere party. Blogs, however, reported that the A-listers ended their relationship a month later, but the reports turned out to be false. However, in 2015, Perry and Diplo went their separate ways.
In 2017, Diplo was spotted holding hands with actress Kate Hudson at the Vanity Fair Oscar after-party. Even though it seemed like a relationship was blossoming between the two, a source revealed that Diplo and Hudson were just friends. Diplo has three children, two with his ex-Kathryn Lockhart and former Miss Universe contestant Jevon King.
A roadrunner inspired Diplo for its Crocs line
Diplo recently partnered with Crocs to launch the Diplo x Crocs collection. The collection comes in two unique styles and features 3D glow-in-the-dark mushrooms. Diplo debuted with the shoe on his Twitter account and shared his inspiration for the shoe.
According to the star, a roadrunner gave him the idea to create the shoe. The star wrote: “A roadrunner drove past me and whispered in my ear to make Mushroom Crocs.” The shoe line was discontinued on June 8 and within a day it was already sold out. Speaking to Esquire, Diplo described his fashion sense as âa mix of Ric Flair and Steve McQueen,â which would explain his interesting choice of outfits.
