7-Year-Old Crushes AC / DC’s ‘Hell Highway’
We know what you are thinking: Another viral video of kid singing classic rock song? But believe us: you haven’t heard anything like the mind-blowing 7-year-old Jesús del Río’s rendition of AC / DC’s “Highway to Hell”.
Del Río delivered his instantly iconic performance in a recent episode of a Spanish singing competition La Voz Children (Children’s voices). As soon as the song’s crisp guitar riff kicks in, all four coaches straighten up during the blind audition. As del Río finishes his first words, they slam the buttons on their chairs to turn around and face the stage. Once he reaches the rising choir, the coaches and audience are all standing, dancing, clapping and cheering in rapture.
From the start, del Río’s performance reportedly declined in La Voz Children the story as one of the best in the series – but then he hits that extended, piercing final note, wide-eyed and flushed face, like his head could pop out of his neck, and the crowd goes mad.
Coaches rush onto the stage to kiss del Río as soon as he’s done singing. You don’t need a translator to understand that they shower him with praise while his family watches and smiles in tears.
Del Río then has a big choice to make: who will he select as his coach? After listening to all of their pitches, the pint-sized rocker settles on Spanish singer-songwriter Melendi.
The music video for del Río’s performance has racked up over 2.2 million views on YouTube so far. No doubt he will have many exciting opportunities ahead of him with a set of tips like this. Who knows: if AC / DC hits the road soon, maybe del Río will join Angus Young, Brian Johnson and Co. on stage for a mind-blowing intergenerational duo.
